We all have friends and if we're lucky then we have them for life. There are some of us who want more than friendship and the risk then becomes a wager becomes terrifying for many hearts.

I need to write
I need to get it all out
Yet I'm pensive
Scared of what may really...
Dwell in my thoughts for you.

It's all buried deep
Somewhere in an abyss of respect
That private place
That place where I keep thoughts of you safe
The place where my shine is born.

I'm terrified of thinking
About you
Scared of purging what is really
There...
There where fears come often
When the friendship of a lifetime could be jeopardized
Terror that this knowledge could change you and how you feel for me.

I'm scared of losing you
That you would never return
What's best here?
The truth could expose a lifetime of dreams
For the Enigma desquised as a friend
For the love that is deeper
For the one friend who has been all my holidays
All my Valentines
For my lifetime friend.

Jackson Browne sings of us
His words speak when mine are lost.

"You're the hidden cost
In all that's lost
In everything I do."

There are no winning answers.

There is great risk associated with vulnerability, yet a great reward as well. Excellent poem

"Doctor my eyes and tell me what is wrong, Was I unwise to leave them open for so long" Jackson Brownes words are so immortal and so true. Only certain friendships last forever and I sense that the one you wrote about here will, don't be afraid, wonderful write, thank u for this. Love Pierre.

Opening a compartment of your heart to exposure.
Wanting to be sure
For we all want love to endure
'Now for me some words come easy
But I know that they don't mean that much
Compared with the things that are said when lovers touch'
Here's hoping your skies are blue

the disguised depth of a friend is something we desperately hold onto to, hoping it doesn't simply run through our fingers ...

hope you're having a wonderful vacation ...

Sis you give us one to ponder as I too have so often done on this very subject. I don't think anyone has all the answers, because it is always a personal choice we make according to our personalities traits, etc. We will all approach it in different ways since we are all unique. Wishing you he best!

Eileen

An excellent pen of one of life's most heart-piercing thorns, Susan. But, in the Biblical context, "perfect love casts out fear" and if the depth of friendship has brought you to a place of honest trust and vulnerability, then perhaps anything is permissable without it jeopardising what you have already. Shared feelings openly expressed on both sides might solder the relationship even more. And it will help "get over" the present dilemma. Sorry, this is not an Agony Aunt spot, but it shows how deeply you draw us in to this ever-present dichotomy. A winning poem thoughtfully expressed. TY Kate xx

A pen many souls can relate to.

There is something of the 'how can i go forward when i don't know which way you're facing?' feel to this introspection.
Looking from the outside in. Someone occupies close social proximity to our lives, so close that our vision becomes obscured. The question is asked: which way is he or she facing? Dare that question be asked?
At this intensity, it's more than the lyrics of a Browne song that's needed, such a drama deserves a full symphony even a libreto.
This is a one act heart play awaiting a second act resolution - if ever.

Regards
Dai

I've known friends for a long time that I shared my life with then to suddenly have to make a chose when they wanted more then what I was willing to give. It's hard to let one go that has spoiled me in many ways yet I also couldn't lead them on by not being fully honest. It's a tuff place. Good thought and write. Lady J

Is it better to cherish the friendship or to lose it when secrets are born? Yes, you are correct for there are no winning answers there is only friendship of which there is so few....
