Viet Nam Loss
Tis' a shame life has dealt me a blow such as this.
To close my eyes nightly and blow you this kiss,
For the hurt that I caused you and your memory fraught...
With the anguish of sorrow and love that was lost.
From the years of the 60's and 70's, complete,
And the war that was fought, for us a defeat.
In two-fold for me ...and for you... who did wait,
And the toll of our love and the war that brought hate.
To a world that stood watching, as the whole scene be damned,
For the two souls left searching and for Viet Nam.
For us...oh so young...with innocent eyes,
The last view I had was of you in the skies.
Soaring away... on a jet, with my prayers...
And a vow... of forever, that didn't prove there.
Our love ever vanished on the wings of this war.
I was left here with fears as you traversed afar.
Away with my hopes and again at all cost,
To a war that was destined and a love that was lost.
My heart has a place for the years that will heal,
And a mind ever needy of a love that can seal...
The despair of the years with forgiving remiss,
For the Love that I loss... I blow you this kiss.
And pray that somehow, with God's smile you'll share,
The thoughts and the memories of a love that was there.
For the letters I wrote and the years of our youth,
For the children we were... but mostly the truth.
That gnaws at me daily, your forgiveness I miss...
My first Love, my soldier...forever this kiss.

while reading, having first seen the..."Wall" & as I read this poem, memories came, felt the pain as if I had suffered it, but I was lucky....I, YOU ...This piece made me FEEL! & It is a Tribute and Testament to all that went, so many...so young, and this is intensely moving/powerfully felt...many thanks, God, Susan...this, to write it! It was painful to read, you went so far within and gave so much, here!!!!!
Just...humbled, afraid for the new youth and empathy for those who fought that awful war and all their pain....
Oh yes, I remember it well - almost all of my senior class boys sent into this hell, most all with no desire for war. I wish for no more names engraved upon walls or tombstones - war is not the path to a just peace.
Susan...this is excellent write from you my friend...this is a great tribute...let us pray for peace and drift the cloud of war hovering over now...war is bad...cheers...great write...BHUWAN

I am well qualified to comment here. Having fought in Vietnam, having been sent not just one but two Dear John letters,(she wasn't sure I would get either one and wanted to better the odds of my receiving one as she married my best friend), having suffered the insults of protesters against those of us who served and then add to the fact that America's politicians in both parties were "Gutless Spineless Liars and Thieves" who waffled on the war and our commitment to it, sacrificing so many young lives for their continued folly of governing our country responsibly, and in not keeping their words of the "Gulf of Tonkin Resolution", I feel like a Motherless Child.

JOINT RESOLUTION
To promote the maintenance of international peace and security in southeast Asia.
Whereas naval units of the Communist regime in Vietnam, in violation of the principles of the Charter of the United Nations and of international law, have deliberately and repeatedly attacked United States naval vessels lawfully present in international waters; and have thereby created a serious threat to international peace; and
Whereas these attacks are part of a deliberate and systematic campaign of aggression that the Communist regime in North Vietnam has been waging against its neighbors and the nations joined with them in the collective defense of their freedom; and
Whereas the United States is assisting the peoples of southeast Asia to protect their freedom and has no territorial, military or political ambitions in that area, but desires only that these peoples should be left in peace to work out their own destinies in their own way: Now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Congress approves and supports the determination of the President, as Commander in Chief, to take all necessary measures to repel any armed attack against the forces of the United States and to prevent further aggression.
Sec. 2. The United States regards as vital to its national interest and to world peace the maintenance of international peace and security in southeast Asia. Consonant with the Constitution of the United States and the Charter of the United Nations and in accordance with its obligations under the Southeast Asia Collective Defense Treaty, the United States is, therefore, prepared, as the President determines, to take all necessary steps, including the use of armed force, to assist any member or protocol state of the Southeast Asia Collective Treaty requesting assistance in defense of its freedom.
Sec. 3. This resolution shall expire when the President shall determine that the peace and security of the area is reasonably assured by international conditions created by action of the United Nations or otherwise, except that it may be terminated earlier by concurrent resolution of the Congress.
Approved August 10, 1964.

Sherlyn Powell opens up about her love and devotion to her family and the overwhelming repercussion when communication breaks down. Heartbroken and distraught she learns to release her prayer and realize with faith God would reunite her family.
