In the fields they would go

Pulling the toesack thru the undertow

Picking cotton as they sing

Of the money that it brings.

A child sits upon the twenty foot sack,

As her father carries it upon his back,

She watches her mother stoop and pick,

The white cotton that would do the trick.

In the bottoms where they live

On a share croppers farm that would give

A fine crop just for the family

Which has a child by the name of Emily.

Of the outside world they didn't know,

The world they lived in didn't show.

The little things that the family did need.

Was food and shelter, they knew not of greed.

Hmmmm...I feel you on this one Linda. Just wanted to let you know that. This work was deeper than an abyss. Very thought provoking. It saddens me especially. Thanks for sharing this wonderful piece Linda. Jim
