MY NEW FRIEND
I met this real nice lady
just a few months ago.
She makes me want her with me,
wherever I may go.
I really like her attitude,
it matches mine a lot.
She might say, “Forget it, do it tomorrow,
today it’s just too hot.”
She’ll say, “That’s why they call it retirement.”
Or, “Tomorrow’s another day.”
And, “We’ll get to it, when we have time.”
sounds like something she might say.
Nothing seems to ruffle her feathers.
She’s what I’d call easy going.
And, she never has to prove herself,
though always, she’s all knowing.
We ‘don’t get above our raisin,’
but I’m satisfied with what we’ve got.
She’s always fun to be around,
although we might not do a lot.
We’ve lots of things in common,
though that’s not what matters most.
It’s that comfort that we feel
when either of us plays host.
We’ve had similar backgrounds,
both having spent some time in banking.
And we’ve each lost a spouse to cancer,
for which there’s no one we’ll be thanking.
Yet, when all is said and done,
you make the best of the hand your dealt
and if I had never have met her,
these feelings I’d never have felt.
