For my Valentine Sweetheart.

Starting over isn't much fun. But it can be OH SO REWARDING!!!

Several years ago I wrote a poem titled Starting Over, but this one has only two verses left from that original version and they are a world apart in the direction they take....

STARTING OVER  (revisited)

For several years I vacillated,
not wanting to take the chance.
Unwilling to expose my emotions
to yet another wasted romance.

We were no longer together.
For that, we shared the blame.
Hadn’t spoken to her in months,
there was no flicker to that old flame.

We couldn’t make each other happy,
neither of us willing to bend.
So, rather than punish ourselves,
we just let the damn thing end.

Then, I met her on the internet,
stumbled into her online,
it was all a great big accident
but she’s been a magnificent find.

We started really slow,
chatted a month before we actually met,
but now I’m more in love with her
than I thought ever again I’d get.

We do everything together,
even things I’d never tried.
I can’t envision life without her,
she’salways by my side.

Oh, it’s not like we do all that much,
but always it’s more pleasant,
when we forget about the past
and simply enjoy the present.

Almost everywhere we go
we nearly always go together,
even during the troubled times
when we’ve storms that we must weather.

Our lives feel more fulfilled,
we’re enjoying our “Golden Years.”
Just the fact we found each other
has calmed most all our fears.

Unwilling to expose my emotions
to yet another wasted romance,
for several years I had vacillated,
but I’m so glad I took a chance.

No one is happier than I am that you decided to 'take a chance'. Needless to say, I like this piece of poetry a LOT.

Yesssssss! THAT is well worth it...is it not? to take a chance a find that you were right when it really counted the most? Love comes when we least expect it. Your rhyme, meter and flow are excellent.

This is such a great story, Richard, and it offers wisdom and hope, not rushing in again is the answer but not leaving it too late either...timing, timing and most important, genuine feeling.

How fortunate both of you have been. The second time around doesn't come to many. God bless you both with many more happy years.
