Yep, Grady, and the further we get away from thinking that all of this is ... about us ... the closer we get to the intelligent designer. To digress - I know we are REALLY HAPPY that our meat hunting takes us nowadays to the grocery/meat store - hunting those mammoths with a spear was really a hassle :-)
Hi Grady. Physics and chance, over deep time, give the appearance of an intelligent plan. Don't be fooled. The whole thing could have gone in very different directions that might not include humans.At least we might be very different beings, say, for example, if the Yuccatan Pennensula had not been the site of a dinosaur killing meteor some 65 million years ago.

I can't remember where I read it but there is some constant mathematical formula for the world--certain measurements.
I also read that a forest that stretched unbroken for a thouand miles that is invaded on one side by a beatle that kills the trees, will find a cure before the beatle can reach the other side. There's some sort of net running through the topsoil where the trees can communicte with each other. I read a summary of the scientific study.
