Last Good-Bye

You asked me at the airport
if I wanted you to wait with me..
You knew I had a long wait..
and I thought to myself ..
Yes!! Yes!!
but I said no..
Knowing your guilt needed to go..
back home to your family
where you belonged..
back to where your heart was
to right whatever went wrong..
I took bags from your car...
I quickly walked away..
I didn't want you to see my eyes..
and how you broke my heart that day..
Once inside the airport..
I pushed back my tears..
Again the strong independent one..
As always throughout the years..
I sat to the side
watched the time go by..
Praying, hoping, in my mind..
That you would run in to say good bye..
To tell me it was all a mistake..
that you couldn't let me go..
without one more kiss..
and that although we could
never be together..
my love you would miss..
But it never happened..
I remained alone..
Crying in my heart..
as you drove back home.

Letting go of someone we love is so very hard. You've expressed these feeling perfectly.

Erica this was lovely. It is something not too many of us experience, but the kindness of letting them let go but holding on secretly and so lonely in your heart. It's quite... wonderful!

Happy New Year!!
