The day Harald was born we were looking forward to see the day he would take the first step. And the long-awaited day had arrived yesterday. Taking all precautions to balance himself, Harald had crossed the babyhood line to the side of childhood stage when he successfully made safely to a destination not more than two feet away from where he started. Now we wait to see the first day he would attend school and many other joyous events in which he would push life further ahead. I dedicate this poem to Harald Yare who is the son of Camilla and the grandson of Elisabeth whom I developed friendship with her over the internet just like I do with many poets here at this Den. Elisabeth is Swedish journalist with wide range of experience in the fields of journalism and economy. Harald is a name formerly used by Vikings who discovered America before the Spanish and Portuguese sailors landed on the shores of Florida. Yare is a Somali word: meaning "little" In Somali Harald Yare means Little Harald. Though Harald is now eight months old he is in the same generation with my new-born son, Ahmed Yare who hasn't yet completed his second month in life.

He is a small bright kid
He has an appealing face
He is love living in love
He is hope living in life
He is the apple of the eye
He is the joy of the heart
His name is Harald Yare

He took his first steps today
He started a journey to life
He has a direction to go
On the sands of freedom
He made the first footprints
He is enjoying the new challenge
He has courage to take more trials
He will no doubt succeed in life
