In reading Eileen's poem of "Fearfully and Wonderfully Made -the womb" I came across of a review made by Linda Gayton in which she said something about herself and her unborn baby. From that review I wrote this poem.I borrowed the character and some of the thoughts from my novel "A Cargo of Guilt"

She crossed the cultural boundary
Her tribe is looked down by others
She hails from a minority community
She is regarded as a girl of low births
She can not marry men of high blood
Unless she goes astray in an alien territory

Teenage ambition guided her to trouble
She fell in the trap a forbidden love case
The man she loved comes from another tribe
Drinking from the cup of infatuation
She became drunk with romantic frenzies
Sometime later Safi grew fat in the waist
Mixing such bloods is a cultural taboo
Safi’s pregnancy was regarded as illegal
She was disowned by her family and relatives

She broke bonds with all people except one
She had a human being inside her big belly
When felt abandoned she talked with herself
From within herself she received a response
Her unborn baby used to give her soft kicks
Simply they were coded messages of hope
They shed light to the dark corners of her life
They injected courage to let her live her life
“Mom” says the unborn as the mother listens
“You are no more alone. We are two.
We are more than two. We are many.
We are strong. We are together”

Splendid poetry, my friend! Thanks! How wonderfully it conveys its message! Sometimes, from sad circumstance, there can bloom flowers of hope and love!

Wow! How exciting Abdi Noor. It sounds like your book will be fantastic. I'm keeping you and it in prayer! Glad Lin.'s comment on my poem that was from an idea from Jude's poem, was helpful, that's what is so good for all of us here, we truly are inspired by each other.

really like the weaving together of several strains of thoughts and metaphors. especially like the idea of the little kicks from within as a call to hope. Dawn

This poem moved me, Abdi-Noor. The bond between mother and child is strong from conception. We are learning so much about that union now and the medical community is finally catching up to what every mother has always known. Mother laughs/baby is happy - mother cries/baby is sad...mother very tired/baby awake and kicking. ;) Nice work!
Take care,
Sherry
