In addition to my regular job, I do telephonic interpreting for my employer. I receive calls from medical facilities as well as the emergency personnel at 911 response centers. I remember a few calls where a neighbor heard of the insuing fight and called 911 to inform the police that there is fighting going on next door. The fighters happen to be a Somali couple who speak no English. The police knock on them and ask them to explain what happened and if anyone was hurt. They take the husband to the police station for drug screening and questioning. Astonishingly, the woman tells me that there was no problem and they were just having fun. This was the second time the police raided them late into the night, and she has no idea why they are involved in her household's life.
