Somalia is not safe for writers, journalists, intellectuals or people with human heart like yourself. They are easily victimized by Ethiopians whose aim is to wipe out all reasonable Somalis, the transitional government which feels insecure and arrests and assissinates journalists and the Islamist fighters who think that any one not with them is against them. Just two weeks ago, a prominant Somali journalist with the Associated Press and the BBC has been gunned down by unidentified armed men at his home in Kismayo, the third largest city in Somalia.

When you were in Somalia, I felt lots of concern for your own safety. Mogadishu is not a safe place at all. It is a city suffering from the combination of destruction from 18 years of lawlessness, prolonged civil war, reckless Ethiopian occupation and destruction and now combined with suicide bombings and killings by Islamic groups. It is terrible, intolerable and unfit for human life. I am glad that you made the right decision to seek asylum in Sweden and I hope the Swedish government considers your asylum application. I am sure that you are the most eligible individual for asylum given the situation in your country and how journalists are hurt on daily basis. I am also sure that you will be an asset to Sweden. You are a peace loving human being with a clear understanding of many issues.

I am concerned about your family now. They need your love and support and I am optimistic that the Swedish government will facilitate your family reunification.

I will add your plight and your country's to my meditation circle. It seems that your country is always in turmoil. All of Africa bleeds from some such struggle but the Horn area so desperate. And you're right, the writers, poets, those who speak out and also the African Musicians who in their attempts to spread songs of unity often are killed. Your first two verses have that urgent beat of a contemporary song. If only you could get your cause on the airwaves...
