This poem is based on the feelings of Hiba, a friend of mine in Hargeisa, Somali-land, who asked me to help her write a poem to a friend she so deeply respects. I compiled these verses on the basis of a short poem she had sent me.

From the perspective of our relationship
People think you are just a friend of mine
But in my heart you are more than that
You are a friend and a sister of difference
As I find you by my side at times of need
Offering me a shoulder to fill my shoulder


Your timely advice leaves a mark in my soul
Your words glow in my heart like a candle
They are a flash of light sparking in my life
I shall always preserve them as a treasure
Cherish them with a clarity of purpose
Never shall I waste them unnecessarily

You have molded my soul with your wisdom
You have sheltered me with words of valor
Soothed my soul like a breath of courage
Injecting my heart with a renewed strength
Helping me push life in the face of hardships

I owe you a huge moral debt of high standard
I wish I could return it all in same equivalence
But for now it is just a poem I dedicate for you
Rest assured that I shall never let you down
Never shall I go off the point or make a lapse
Success is the only way I can meet your expectation
