The Biologist
The Heart is just an organ
It has only one function
It circulates blood (Period)
The Saint:
The Heart is a spiritual instrument
A core determinent of good and evil
An eternal pathway to meet or miss God
The Poet:
The Heart is the seat of Love
It is where pain and joy are felt
It is a link between the body and mind

Good questions asked with each having equal merits depending on your point of view. Though as you posted this on a place of poets I suspect that most will concur with the third reason
you've penned a brilliant, thought provoking piece--all three are important, but as a poet, i have to choose number three (although two makes a strong point, too)
Sorry to be a wet blanket, but I agree with the biologist. I think the brain is where everything happens. The heart is just an organ, albeit one of the most important organs in the body. I suspect that Western thought has enshrined the heart with many attributes, but that other cultures would look at it differently. In any case, this is a good job dealing with a subject open to so many points of view.
