The only thing I saw was his back as

he walked up the stairs with a jug of rum,

a six pack of diet coke and a twelve

pack of beer—for good measure, I suppose.

It was a cold night… so I went to bed.

Your title really sets off this poem. Yes, shaken by the insensitivity and not stirred to respond. Direct and to the point. Love it. Liz

Well, I'm shaken too, Sara. So much said in so few words. -gene.

Sara,
How well this encapsulates selfishness, indifference, separateness and indulgence!

I echo Fee's words-- so hopeless, and how sad. Human driftwood. --Charlie

That last line...it can be taken different ways and changes the mood of the poem depending upon how it is taken...in an emotional sense, or a physical sense...or just as an observation.
Well done,

SAD, you are to beautiful and tender to live like that for long. You will know in your heart when it has been long enough. So few words explain it but they were powerful ones you used. Well done in letting them out for others to see and feel. Love and hugs Sara, Love, Bonnie

The hopelessness of this one is as painful as a punch to the gut. I can almost see the eyes watching that retreating back and even a sense of anger at the futility of it all...

Hang in there! Al Anon is a great program. If it continues, it will only get worse. Your group knows what must be done however painful

Ouch. I'd kick his butt to the curb ... if he'd rather drink instead of being with you, phooey! on him. :( Such sadness in these lines ...

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

I guess it was a Friday nite binge. You did the right thing by not confonting him and configuring to go to bed and get warm by yourself.
