Grumblings From the Road

Sigh, another hotel room
Dallas this week
Yeah,Tex-Mex
Rah Rah
I don’t mean to sound so apathetic
I love Texas
But this is my third trade show this year
and my companies fifth.
Hey, it is only January 22, 2003

Oh man, I am sick of hotel rooms
Let me guess,
you are sitting there reading this
and saying to yourself,
“Wow what a glamorous life Sara has,
traveling all over the world,
she is sooooooooo lucky.”

YOU ARE SOOOOOOOOO WRONG
THIS IS HELL

Give me my own bed,
My pillow,
The sun setting over my lake
Disney’s nightly fireworks
The cats all snuggly and purring
The dog licking my feet

At least I have my hubby here
He is my own private Robin Williams
Always filling my life with his never ending cheer
A real joke meister that man
I am so lucky he loves me
He is so lucky I love him
'Cause when you spend all day
And all night
Continuously
In each others company
You better have love
To hold you together
Otherwise even the most mild of irritations
Will set you in a tailspin and
make you want to rip the others head off
So you look at your spouse and he looks at you
And out of his mouth comes a joke
No venom, just a joke and a laugh
Yeah now that is love
Real love
Not cyber love
Love love

And of course I have my fantasies too
No, not those
Hehehehe, yeah maybe those too
But I mean fantasies of the future
Where instead of trade shows
I’ll be beamed into your room
No thousands of rooms simultaneously all over the world
Hey, maybe even the solar system
A holographic image
Life sized translucency
Pitching my wares
While my true lifeform is in MY home.

Sometimes I wonder
If the only thing that prevents
life such as this
is corporate need.
Survival of the unfittest.
Yeah I know I’ve lost you now.
Okay this is how it works.
If I and all the other business travelers/frequent flyers find a way to make a presentation without actually needing to travel to another location then all the belly aching you are hearing out of the airline industry today will be a mild whine compared to the catastrophe they will experience in this vision of a new world. And then you will have trickle down economics really show its ugly head. Only what will be trickling down is bankruptcy of airlines, caterers, travel agents, luggage manufacturers, computers, airports, air traffic controllers, etc, etc, etc. I think you get my point.

So progress is a slippery slope folks.

And now that I’ve chewed your eyes raw
It is time for bed
Good night.

Sara Super Girl....thank you for sharing yourself with us....
It's great to be able to do what you do...
we need more people like you in this world who can still be "human" ....and not just a machine that operates by pushing a button...
Thanks
Love

I traveled for years and your home becomes where you put your head for the night, the maid service became my wife and the deskclerk was my alarm, and the Denny's was my breakfast with lunch being two drinks and someone else's cigar smoke, and dinner that was all that and a bag of chips, from the Quickmart. My chariot was American Airlines, and vacation was over in two days and I would start all over again. I now regret I didn't say no.

Trade Shows and nameless faces, bare walls and just stir crazy....

Me too. I've traveled and done trade shows, met so many that I felt bad for not remembering faces. The life leaves you numb and the glamor is ficticious. Fun write but oh so true for the life it portrays.

Sara, you mean Sara is Super Girl. Well at least in a hotel room, you won't have to change into Super Girl in a phone book. And how hilarious this is. LMFAO ... lmfao
