Woman is my name
don’t take it in vain.
As powerful as any man
I can do what any man can.
Pregnant and barefoot
covered in black soot
is my Momma’s ancestry;
not a parcel pertains to me.
Woman has a place . . .
say it to my face
I’m an intelligent being.
Using my brain is so freeing.
Children are a dream--
not my everything!
I plan to share the housekeeping--
all the mopping and the sweeping.
I want to have fun
you son-of-a-gun.
I want to love you like before
let me live free or take the door.
A woman like me
avoids misery.
To love and cherish forever
understanding would be clever.
Woman is my name!
