Allowing children to be 'fondled' by others is child abuse!
*******************

Poem Artwork

I remember Momma would say,
”Listen or you’ll be sent away
to a place where there is no play--
everyone has to work all day.”
We cried for children there
who had no joys to share,
wore smelly underwear,
had no one to love … care.
I remember …

I remember Mom would laugh, curse,
”But … there are things that are much worse.”
Grinning till her laughter spilled, burst.
”Those who dare fight will be ‘snaked’ first.”
Raped by words spreading fear,
jumped, on edge, when folks near,
trembling … I couldn’t hear.
Tears drizzled away all cheer.
I remember …

I remember Momma let men
hold us in their laps … now and then.
They were ‘touching’ … shouldn’t have been …
and all the while Momma would grin.
They made me feel like dirt,
where they probed we all hurt.
It felt like something spurt
underneath our wee skirt.
I remember …

I remember Mom would sigh, cry.
She’d say, “I’ll wash your mouth with lye!
I’m an adult--would say you lie--
that you spit in my face, punch my eye.”
I said, “Mom, I don’t care--
won’t trod in underwear!
We might as well go bare.
I don’t like creeps who stare.”
I remember …

I remember Momma--though six--
told my four sisters I would fix
those guys whose fingers were doing tricks,
who made their ‘bulges’ turn to sticks.
”I told Daddy on you!
He told me what I knew--
to call the men in blue,
give the Devils their due.”
I remember …

and … Mom … Dad was talking about you!

Disturbing. It takes courage to share such tragedy. And hopefully, it brings healing. Thank you, Sandy. Love and peace. Regis

Sandra,

Very emotive. Powerful and disturbing! Excellent write on such a horrendous act. If this isn't fiction, then I pray that you and your sisters have healed from this terrible abuse. My heart goes out to children of sexual and/or any type of abuse and I keep them in my prayers.

btw, this is so well written, its just me thats thick!

I remember while growing up, some of my parents friends used to pay WAY TOO MUCH ATTENTION to me, but my mom was a lionless and watched me like a hawk. Nobody could get near me. And she actually used to warn me, if so and so was paying too much attention to me,(or trying to hug me too much) and send me on errands etc, to get me away from the situation.

I agree with Dave and I wonder about those mothers that allow this to happen to their children. My mother would have shot the man dead that molested me. But abusers know how to turn the knife.

i don't know if this is from actual experience or just writing about the experience we all know happens to children, either way, it is traumatic and well penned. children should be protected not abused and if it is the parent who abuses, they should be treated like the criminal they are

Wow, the best way to heal is to remember. Then talk, write, whatever it takes, for it to lose its power. All else I have to say is... I remember...
