Sinewy Road

Following the road, lean and sinewy--
seeing her white fangs flare,
hearing her low growl rise--
something lifts, pounces, bounces from the hood.
The yawning night sprawls, envelopes, swallows me
into its’ creepy void.
I’m thoroughly devoured.
Inside silence hovers deafeningly
absorbing my awakening gurgles.
Eyes, drawn on black canvas,
blink yellow, unyielding,
like a precarious and cautious wild cat.
They zoom in, slit, at me, staring narrowly,
putting me in focus,
tasting me visually.
Why does the night have eyes only I see?
With a screech of brakes a car skids, tumbles,
out of control and falls
somewhere by the wayside.
Another soul's on an uncharted path
devoured by the road, long and sinewy.

In the End: Apocalyptic Poetry by Debra Kraft

In the end they'll all be dancin'--all them ones that didn't die.... Dance with me in the shadows amidst the lightning and the thunder, and all that nu-cu-lar debris. See the big bang from the other side, and then open that cellar door. Go down into
