On a camping trip tired of eating dried foods,
bored, quite antsy, I took a walk in the woods.
The birds were silent . . . maybe not in the mood.
Wild creatures aren’t goons as in some neighborhoods.
Momma was shouting, screaming my name
“Bears roam the valley, are you insane?”
A little brown church appeared in the valley
I made my way down to the large open door.
Worshipping wild animals beckoned me, “Come, Sally.”
We shared a natural feast--nuts, berries and more.
The others, in camp, were out looking for me
but, before darkness fell, I ambled to camp.
The sheriff was there and dog teams were straining.
Ma came running, hugged me, then cried, “You scamp!
Don’t ever walk alone!” People bawled me out!
I’m deaf not dumb . . . ‘twas no danger any time;
My Daddy, an angel, stands watch over me.
