Aberrant proteins destroying the brain
leaving holes, sponge-like, without any pain.
Chronic wasting away is in the prey;
consumption may spread it our way.
Do we need the meat?
Is it safe to eat?
Infectious prions may pay humans back
for the thrill of the hunt, what’s in our sack.
Firmly entrenched, failing elk, cows, deer . . .
can’t we refrain from meat dishes here a year?
Precautions needed--
will they be heeded?
Is there an epidemic in the wild?
Would you feed infected meat to any child?
Do we have the gumption, the drive
to put one season of meat meals aside?
Chance this malady
that may grow inside?

I seem to recall a prediction about meat becoming to dangerous to eat and now it seems to be slowly happening. Just wish I could remember who did those predictions because everything he said it coming true. All I can remember is he was on the tonight show about 20 years ago. Great capture of the Mad Cow problem.
