I've worn the mask of Apollo
but won't follow the actor's trade;
I hardly ever speak
my voice is a rusty blade.

I won't tread the boards
exchange the pine forest
for all your greasepaint?

I fail to see Shakespeare's
sublimity;
I won't become a player
and lose my anonymity.

You say I have a Roman nose,
perfect for Antony or Caesar,
but if I go on stage,
I'm sure to have a seizure.

It's not my scene to be
in a Midsummer Night's Dream;
I'm a man without a mask
pretending otherwise
is an impossible task!
