Gram and Emmylou
He rode a motorcycle
And it almost killed him
Before the drugs actually did
Burned in the desert
In the darkness of the night
She loved him back then
And she loves him still
The sound of his voice
Coming off the vinyl in waves
Makes her quiver inside
Songs of life-long sadness
Full of struggle and pain
Nearly famous and flirting death
She loved him then
Sorrowfully playing his songs
She gets up on the stage every night
Calling out his name in each cord
Bringing him fame without fortune
He’s getting the fame but not the fortune
