Her New Black Dress
By Tom Brosman
She found her way inside my house
And I am certain I had locked the door.
In a new black dress she moved in close
With a sultry perfume I couldn’t ignore.
She finds me here and I struggle in vain
To dodge her beguiling ways again.
She holds me so as we dance so slow
She laughs in my ear at my pain.
She finds me alone on the bluest nights
She dances with me while it rains.
Her kiss is sweet as I sway to her beat
As hope and cheer from me drains.
The beauty’s given name is Loneliness
And she is gorgeous in a new black dress.
She drains me dry until I can’t even cry
And leaves me spent from her caress.
