Will They Learn To Pray
The Witches
 
Three shadows in the moonlight
In crisp November slice
Disappear then solid
Once, then twice, and thrice
 
A song upon the moonlight
A chant upon the wind
Chiller than January
Of a blizzard's din
 
A circle of six hands
Met on fingertips
Round the trio dances
Wild on the skip
 
Chanting there in secret
For they've a mighty need
A spell of pure forgetfulness
They dance for as they plead
 
They mixed a drought of berries
Along with honey sweet
Some wine to make the merry
Then crushed the the harvest wheat
 
Then drank from crystal goblets
Carved from river ice
Asked the icy waters
For crystalline advise
 
Asked the wind and forest
For powers they believed
Would magically erase
The pain that made them grieve
 
Implored the barren earth
The moon and diamond stars
The seasons and the cycles
To heal their tightest scars
 
 
And if the spirits grant their wish
Wiping all away
Will the silence drive them mad
 
Or will they learn to pray
