The arts and methods, by which we use

To remove calamity are pretty shallow.

Just go to the root of the matter and

Think of a richly furred fox or a beaver.

It doesn't have to be seen to be believed

That they lodge in the forests on the hills

And lurk in their underwater burrows

Among the logs and rocks, keeping still.

At night they go about and during day

Remain in their holes -- so cautious are they.

Even if they are suffering from hunger

And other hardships, they still keep aloof

From the men's habitats, seeking their food

About the hills and ponds -- so steadfast they are.

Still they are not able to escape the danger

Of the net and trap, but what fault is it of theirs?

It is their furred skin which occasion them

Each and every sort of their distress. . .

Now think of this highly developed country --

Is it not its wealth that can be easily likened

To the skin of the mentioned here creatures?

I also have a dream to see this country rips its skin

And cleanses its heart and puts away its ambitions

Of superpower, and thus enjoys itself where it will be

Without the presence of any of its citizens

Beyond the frame of the true democracy -- the aim

This country was founded for not so long ago.

Unfortunately, your message has little chance of becoming reality, given the downward spiral this country is in. Having lived most of my adult life in New York and Los Angeles, I can now enjoy the lack of such "feeding" and "hunting" density in my modest apartment in Oregon, where such as you speak, has a much better chance of remaining conscious of nature and its modest demands.

I have no need for fine fur at any cost. You are absolutely right about the aspirations Americans have been addicted to, not seeming to want to be world citizens but rather members of a super country based on money and power. If we strip away all the excess money and remove the power of the military, we gain far more than patriotism, we gain peace and tranquility.

A noble aim, may it ever come true, Alex. A telling image of the condition of the country. John

These last months have started a ripping, but one which is shallower than our false fascinations and anxieties. My mind goes to the much-used and undefined word "ideology" and the cleansing possibility of a positive edge that that has always been there. lying sharply across from from the negative one, yet rarely seen. And much less acknowledged.
The thoughts spin. That's a start.
