Good Manners

Poem Artwork

Love may be practised,

And justice may be

Partially attended to,

But by ceremony

And politeness

Men impose

On one another.

 

When love is lost

Justice is on

To be observed;

When justice is lost,

There is nothing remains

But ceremony

And good manners.

 

Ceremony and manners

Performed insincerely
 
Are but inessential flowers

Blooming up

On the surface of behaviour

And therefore

The commencement of disarray.

Good manners and civil behavior are the foundations of society, and are sorely lacking in today's ideological world.

I agree. Or we may disagree. But good manners goes a long way toward harmony and equilibrium. And that says a lot. John
