O my poor Ego! Uneasy indeed
It is to change you spontaneously!
You have been breed and trained
In propriety for a long time, and yet
Your servile and mean traits
Have not been taken from you, at all.
I may now speak openly to you. Listen,
When you meet one older than yourself
And do not show him respect,
You fail in propriety. When you see a man
Of superior wisdom and goodness
And do not honour him, you thus want
Unique characteristic of humanity.
If you do not possess your sincerity
In the highest degree, how can you
Make others submit to you? And if
Their submission to you is not true ,
Then they do not attain to the truth
Of their proper nature, and thus
Inflict a lasting harm on their selves.
Alas, there is no greater calamity to men
Than the want of sincerity; and you,
O my poor Ego, you alone, will take
Such want on yourself! Therefore,
Wherever you find it, you honour it,
Showing your submission and reverence.
This is the only method for you to survive.
So a lifelong battle ensues...
Diana...
Always,
Deborah
