Our Dellie

‘Twas back in Nineteen and Twenty-six,
June the Fifteenth, to be exact,
Ethel and Tom had their first baby girl,
named her Adele Ethel, and that’s a fact!

She growed up in South Baltimore,
went to Saint Mary’s Star of the Sea,
then on to Southern High School,
on Warren and William, near Battery.

By this time old World War II had come,
and Dellie and Rose, cousin June and others got on the bus,
traveled to Camp Meade to entertain the Boys,
danced, and smiled, and raised quite a fuss!

The next thing she knowed, she was wed
to an Allen boy, name of Charlie,
they had two girls, Barbara and Pat,
but, then he ran off, and that was that!

Some time went by, and Dellie met Lou,
then they got hitched, along came little Danny,
last name of Sizer, now a family of five,
then one day, Poof, off went Lou’s fanny!

With the passing of a few more years,
Dellie and her little three
struggled along without no "Daddy",
‘til along came Ed Gillece, you see!

Well, they say, "three times a charm",
so Dellie and Ed got pretty warm.
In time they decided to "tie the knot",
and Bingo! came little Gloria Jean, Hot, Hot, Hot!

Well, for a while they was happy,
this family of six,
but the Good Lord took Ed to heaven,
and Dellie plus four had a new life to fix.

The "kids" growed up, and went their ways,
and a guy named Herman came a’courtin’,
dinner and dancing, and a little romancing,
and Dellie was back in the swing of things!

A beautiful smile, and a wicked laugh,
when she cracked a dirty joke,
our Dellie was a little devil,
a fun-lovin’, singing, dancing, female-type bloke!

Whenever she appeared,
when she was in her prime,
one thing you could count on,
was havin’ a good time!

Well, our Dellie was always the "life" of the party,
while we had her here with us, and she’ll always be within,
but, the Good Lord needed someone bubbly,
so now she’s gone to heaven, to be with the rest of our kin.

Ladies and Gents, lift your glasses on high,
for today we celebrate
the freedom of a fine, fine soul...
with a hug, and a kiss, and a big, big smile,
I give you a toast to our Dellie,
it’s only Toodle-Loo, for awhile,

Love, and Peace, and something Sweet in your cup,
and please, please, please
