I graduated from a college supported by church funds and, as such, had to take a myriad of bible courses and courses on philosophy. This poem was a result of my thought that the problem with thinking about "deep" subjects is that our minds are formulated and trained through experience and experience cannot answer all of the questions. This comes from my book on poetry: "Acorns of Love and Wisdom, Poem for the Every Day Person".

THERE MUST BE MORE (ON PHILOSOPHY)

As I sit thinking
Prisoner to my thoughts
Their concourse flows
Where neither time
Nor substance go
Subconscious ranting
That appetite unappeased
And insatiable yearning
Governs my direction
The essence of existence

As a lighted candle in cavernous depths
One exists
A momentary spark
Of perception
Kindled and fed
By flames
Of other existence

Allowed to ponder
Beyond the moment
I question-
Reason-
Seek reasons-
Among infinite answers
Which results
In the conflagration
Of finite logic

Yet we
Are our own creators
Perpetrators
Of paradox
And our traps
Are baited
With minds
That dictate:
"There must be more."
