I have always loved natural settings and have sought them out my whole life. I live in Florida and the beauty of the woods, lakes, rivers and shores is staggering. It's funny how many people live here and have never enjoyed any of that.

ALIVE AT NIGHT

A horse screams in the night
perhaps a mile or two away
An we can see the stars blinking light
Made so by branches as they sway

And if we are quiet, we can hear
The crickets start to sing.
We can see lightning bugs as they appear
Like tiny lanterns on silent wing

The night birds call in their flight
Across the fluorescence of the sky
And our faces glow from moonlight
As clouds go drifting by

We see each other as we really are
With love of life and giving
And the horse calling from afar
Reminds us of freedom in living

A beautiful poem and artwork, Steve. Your words paint like your pencil draws.

Oh, this makes me want to be there! Fantastic imagery - I can hear the crickets singing... what a shame for those who don't recognize the beauty of it all. Excellent, excellent artwork, Steve.

This lives up to its name... it is alive! Beautiful descriptions.
