VICISSITUDES OF LIFE

We are each
Conceived and born alone
But
It is not meant
For us to so remain

Everything in life
Has its pair
The sea joins a sandy shore
The moon replaces the sun
The day relieves the night

All is harmonious
And dependent upon one another
For existence
To destroy one part
Is to disrupt all

The harmony is beautiful
But even the most perfect of worlds
Must, for periods
Be shadowed

This too is part of harmony
That
The clouds give the earth
A rest from the sun
Or the tide gives the shore
A break from the sea
Or the night
Allows the world its rest
Before the day

We
Who are born alone
Also need partners
With whom
To share
The days and nights
Of life

We could never
Walk life's road
Alone or silent
And
There will also be shadows
To cloud our days
But then
We will have only
To await
The return of the sun
