The Still Small Voice

The still small voice of conscience

Mostly drowned out in the din

By vast un-named distractions

I might give the name of “sin.”

It’s not that we ignore it-

We forgot its even there-

With offerings to help us

If we’d only learn to care.

She speaks in words like “Honesty.”

Like “turn the other cheek.”

Like, “Would you like this done to you?”

We need to hear her speak.

I say, turn up the volume now

Before it is too late-

We can’t go on not listening

And blame it all on fate.

A better life is all she wants

For you and yours to know

But we’re all making so much noise

And reaping what we sow.

The still small voice speaks softly

But it turns all hearts around-

Let’s still the noise and dim the lights…

And listen to her sound.
