Dawn

I did not know how young I was-
So blind and unprepared.
The victim of a recent loss
I innocently shared.

So beautiful and popular-
I did reach for the stars,
And thought that she had caught me.
How desolate is Mars?

It’s taken me how many years
Yet everything is her.
There is a way to understand
The things that never were.

I must not take all blame myself-
The loser always blames.
It is nobody’s fault at all
That dreams go up in flames.

Life is a classroom teaching loss-
It was my time to learn,
To face the music- it was dawn
That finally I discern.
