Your presence is to me a sanctuary
Where I come in from the rain
Of a cold, harsh, insensitive world
That frightens me.
A world too busy to notice a smile,
Or a tear, or even remember me.
With you I find a home
Of peace and warmth and understanding.
You alone let me be me.
Tell me, where else could I ever go
Or want to go?
Where else?
And if someday
For whatever reason,
I search for you,
Soaked and shivering in the cold rain-
And find your doors closed to me-
I will kiss those wet doors
And walk off silently in the night,
For I can only love you.
