I write what I feel, but I pray for a different conclusion than this poem offers.

Bipolar

I remember you from long ago.
When you were someone anyone could know.
It all was clear, the person that you were,
But that was then, it now is all a blur.

Now the symptoms that you manifest
Bring out the worst beside the very best
And all your loved ones live in worlds confused-
A blameless one who leaves us all abused.

Such effort to explain it all away
But always asking, “Who are you today?”
We ask ourselves “What could we have done wrong
To cause the loss of you for whom we long?”

Don’t tell me this is how it’s meant to be.
Is it you can’t or that you will not see?
But then restored like Jesus healed the blind-
‘Till once again the darkness claims your mind.

Our son’s the one who pays the greatest price
Believing that his mommy must be nice,
So he must be the one who is to blame-
You say he is, and then must face the shame.

But lucid moments will not save you now,
I always thought that something could somehow.
But this disease has come to claim us too-
And so we have to get away from you.

It took me ten minutes to compose a response to this, John. Ultimately, I decided to only say these words:
The most powerful poetry always come from the pain of the heart. Whatever your decision, I pray you find internal peace.

Hugs...

When everything is dark and your feeling helpless and confused, its most probably cause you are, bad times peak and when they do we find the strenght to carry on, writing as honest and as decent as this is but one way,a lot on one ways make for better days, hope you find yours, take good care...Mark

John, I appreciate and empathize with your heart breaking, powerful poem.
"Our son’s the one who pays the greatest price
Believing that his mommy must be nice,
So he must be the one who is to blame-
You say he is, and then must face the shame.

But lucid moments will not save you now,
I always thought that something could somehow.
But this disease has come to claim us too-
And so we have to get away from you."

Have courage to stand by your painful yet perhaps needed decision for the good of all concerned! Bless you, John!

Oh JOHN!!

This truly shows the saddness behind the mask you wear. The loving and romantic verses that flow from you come straight from your heart and soul...but this disease penetrates you through every pore and flows mingled with your lifes blood continuely. I know this had to be horribly difficult for you to write...and in doing so there is a small form of release. There are times when we must stand and fight to make things right...and times when we must walk away from the darkness into the light. That one line below captures that very essences of the disturbances within the mind of a Bi-polar. There is no shame in walking away from something that will eventually claim your lifes every breath...and save your son the darkness that reigns within his life as well.
May God grant you strength to perserver and may He always shine upon you and your son a light that never dims.

"‘Till once again the darkness claims your mind."

Bless your sweet heart for the courage to write this!!

All my love,
Dee

John, hope you got my other message. Poetry is at its most powerful, I believe, when it faces down life's most harrowing moments and, in so doing, discovers hope. Be comforted today. You're not alone. Brooke

This is painful and i know
the sweat of borw of the pain
that took to compose this one...

the calms and no safe border in between.
