“Why should anything good happen to me?”

The wounded child within me was always the first to speak.

I’ve experienced trauma throughout my life

that many find hard to believe.

It’s hard for me to speak about but still I do

because I hope that in speaking I can help others too.

I’ve lost some of the people I’ve loved most in this world

in tragic and heartbreaking ways.

At one time even tried to take my own life.

I felt like I had nothing left to live for

and eventually, all hope died.

I faced death, then lost my eyesight

and for three years, was blind.

And then a miracle happened.

After surgery to restore my sight,

one day, I opened my eyes and I could see again.

The world was bright!

You see, for me…

I died so I could live

I went blind so I could see.

How could I fail to be grateful?

I open two gifts every single day - my eyes!

Why should anything good happen for me?

Maybe because as I’ve come to see

that I’m as deserving all of those

with impossible dreams.

When we dare to do,

we have a chance

to make all those erstwhile dreams true .

I've finally broken the chains

that tied me to the past.

And I am free.

Not because I feel like it

but because I choose to be.

The wounded child who called herself a ‘Throwaway Kid’

The kid who escaped her fear by retreating

into a misty land of dreams, is more at peace.

I've tucked her safely into my heart.

And on those rare days when she cries,

I reassure her that nobody will mistreat her again.

A mature woman now stands upon the side of a cliff

and looks out onto an ocean filled with new dreams,

an ocean that stretches to the horizon and beyond.

She pats the head of the wounded one and says,

“It’s ok little one. Your time has come!”

I am certain you've found a peaceful plateau on which to relax a bit and to find comfort from your past. Good going! But there is no lasting respite from life's challenges. [I'm a few days older than you, and Oh, 'tis true,'tis true!] I've also found a good source of comfort in Wendi Friesen, a lady hypnotist with a soothing voice and a positive message. A Google search will produce her website with one or more of her hypnotic messages. I haven't examined them for subliminal messages. All I know is that I feel a whole lot better after listening to them. And the price is right--nada! Keep writing, posting, and pushin' on. Ed

Rather nice, Chanti. Evocative and compelling in the write, but also comforting in affirming the essential human condition that embraces all of us, translated via your own footsteps along the pathway. I love that shared vision of standing as a mature person on the cliff, gazing off to the ocean's horizon with new purpose, awareness and...dare I say it?...hopes?. There is excellence here, in both the construct and the translation from words into emotive feeling...never an easy thing to do, not matter what one's street creds are. What a pleasure it is to 'discover' you here on Authors' Den. A hui hou, K2
