A Sister Knows

My brother is still so lost. I recalled this terrible night from years back just after he lost his wife, the love of his life in a tragic car accident. Recent events brought it back to mind.

Poem Artwork

He paced like a caged animal
Pupils focused to pin heads
Lips in a tight line
Hands clenched
Muscles tense
I placed a restraining hand
Upon his shoulder
He shrugged it off
“I’ve gotta get out of here”
“Don’t! Please stay. We’ll work this out.”
But I didn’t try to block his exit.
I’d been through it a dozen times before.
I stayed awake late into the night, praying
My own body rigid with tension
Then a vision formed in the dark
I saw his face, blood dripping from one eye.
He looked at me with such anguish.
“Let me go Chants. I really want to die”
I bolted from my bed, got dressed
And jumped into my car.
Then drove on auto pilot
Led by instinct and maybe…God?
Finally, I found him
Stumbling on the side of the road
Drew up beside him, said:
“Get in. I’ll take you home”
“How did you find me Chanti?”
His words slurred and slow.
“A sister always knows.
Now get in the car, you idiot.
L
et’s go”

Chanti,
I understand this one so well, with the loss of my brother only four years old and now with the watching and waiting as his widow seems to be going the same route this one hit close to home. Like your brother she is dying from a broken heart by giving up the will to live. So sad.

There are people who can't cope with pain. You prayed for him and that was right, but he needs to pray himself, and know that someone suffered for his pain. Then perhaps there will be hope. But you continue to pray for him. Victor

My dear Chanti,
My heart aches for your brother and for you. Your brother is in desperate need to talk to somebody, maybe pray for understanding. We do not get to choose how or when we die. It leaves the family in total distress for a long time. Your brother needs to understand the answers are not in the bottom of a bottle. It only clouds the mind and what he wants now is clarity on why this had to happen and why to her. Encourage him to seek help, he can't go on like that. I don't find it a bit strange that God sent you to pick him up, you probably saved his life that night, but he will do it again and again. I will pray that he will wake up one morning and see a new day, and I will pray you get the peace and closure that you desperately need too. Always here for you! Just a click away.
Hugs,
Linda

Chanti~
I can surely relate...I have no idea where my brother is...? Last I saw him..."He" was long gone replaced by someone I do not? Enable or Throw away? What choices are left and I refuse either...I love my brother and I can hear how your love for him shouts out from your soul in "Lost"
We will pray together...Amen
Love and Peace~

Oh Chanti...I'm so terribly sorry for the pain you obviously carry for your brother. And I'm sorry for his pain too. The world can be an incredibly unfair place. I pray that he finds his way back to the best of life very soon. This is a heart wrenching emotive write my friend...sending much love, support, and respect...Michelle

I could feel your emotional pain and torment as I read, dear friend. I'll continue to lift Ruppert up in prayer. Perhaps a chat with a friend would help? (smiles)

My love to you,
Tami
