A Simple Ode to Happiness
By John Herlihy
As light as a feather,
As fickle as the weather,
As elusive as the wave,
As unreliable as the knave,
As mysterious as the fog,
As puffed up as the frog,
As happy as a child,
As free as the wild,
As careless as a fawn,
As fresh as dew at dawn.
In our dreams,
Beguiled.
In our lives,
Reconciled.
In the dark,
A distant light.
Happiness in arrears,
Brings hot, salty tears.
When happiness arrives,
Sadness in demise.
Indeed, in life,
Happiness plays its part,
Not in the brain,
But in the heart.
