Forget not the darkness;
Do not hinder the coming of night;
Do not even whisper;
Silence has become its sister.
First darkness contains secrets
Every bit the equal of first light.
The darkness harbors mystery,
To protect the sanctity of eternal night.
What is the moon
But a mischievous orb,
Unveiling layers of borrowed light,
That the night must graciously absorb.
Then we have the twinkle of stars,
Forever encircling the Planet Mars.
Though worm of light it but be,
It travels light years for all to see.
Consider the humble firefly,
Flashing its phosphorescence in the dark sky.
It brightens the darkness with its prayer,
No one has the right its glow to ensnare.
Beware the darkness has eyes,
Brave animals grateful of disguise,
Twin visions of luminous hue,
Yellow beams belonging to the select few.
The midnight moth searches for light,
A flickering candle has an attraction most bright.
The light invades darkness with promise at hand,
To draw in the moth with its compelling demand.
We sing the praises of everlasting light;
We talk of it morning, noon and night.
But what of the glories of profound darkness,
That wraps infinitude in its ebony blackness.
Forget not that darkness imitates light;
A universal feature that informs our sight.
The splendor of light pervades the day;
But at night, darkness always holds sway.
The first verse of this beautiful poem really got to me. Oh, and the secrets the night hold are many. I actually love every word in this write!! Stunning write indeed!!
Your rhyming is getting much better as you progress through these poems filled with many ways of working at a single subject like the night.
And, it appears that you like the night as a wonderful place of warmth, activity and mystery, like I do. There is nothing like a warm summer night. And then of course, there's nothing like a cold starlit night in the dead of winter.
yes, all things carry the shadow (darkness) on their backs and face the sun (light), refining vital energy thru proper blending of the two substances. Thus, it's true that all and everything is the light-oriented, not the other way round. This is because we all come out from the darkness of our wombs, earths, nights, ignorances. . . in order to enlighten ourselves with the spirit-like forces. But the real strength is still on the other side to be exploited sensibly (intelligently, i.e., with a torch of light). A brave poem which dares to illuminate the dark theme. Cheers, alex
Gotta love the "humble firefly," but not "Beware the darkness has eyes." You have given darkness a very good account of itself, pretty much from A to Z.
Perhaps "..Quiet Storm" will help rekindle old flames buried and long forgotten or express the love so deeply locked inside of your soul longing to be released.
Regardless of where you may be found in love this beautiful masterpiece can be
