Infinity’s Reach
By John Herlihy

No horizon exists within infinity’s reach;
Raw human emotion flows darkly into the breach.

The human condition fades within eternity’s moment;
Past and future disappear, no time for regret or atonement.

Rage and resentment, envy and despair;
Multitudes of sentiments disappear as if never there.

Love traces a map into the grooves of life’s palm,
Our giving and receiving echo destiny’s psalm.

We live in a world of wild extremes;
Its savage nature is bursting at the seams.

Pain and suffering lie coiled within;
Sorrow and grief reveal our inner chagrin.

The seams of our lives are tightly strung,
Unraveling down to the core will leave us undone.

The hunger of the body has us eat ourselves at night,
Until emaciated and frail, we disappear like the light.

In the end, we lie naked as the day we were born;
Our shoes cast aside, our clothing frayed and torn.

Our life flows onward into eternity’s moment;
Our love lies raw and vulnerable within infinity’s reach.

The earth door closes upon our personal domain,
At the threshold where God and His Glory reign.

ONLY IF ONE BELIEVES THIS...IS IT REAL FOR THEM! TO TOUCH GOD ONE 'MUST' HAVE FAITH. 'FOR WITHOUT FAITH, IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO PLEASE GOD'. 'FOR THE JUST SHALL LIVE MY FAITH'. AND WHAT IS FAITH? 'THE SUBSTANCE OF THINGS HOPED FOR AND THE EVIDENCE OF THINGS NOT SEEN'. 'FOR ONE MUST BELIEVE THAT HE IS AND IS A RE-WARDER OF THOSE THAT 'DILIGENTLY' SEEK HIM'. THEN AND ONLY THEN, 'BEFORE WE CALL, HE WILL ANSWER, WHILE WE ARE YET SPEAKING, HE WILL HEAR. WE ARE LOVED BECAUSE, HE SAID SO AND 'GOD IS NOT A MAN THAT HE SHOULD LIE.' HE SAID, 'I HAVE LOVED YOU WITH AN EVERLASTING LOVE', AND 'YOUR NAME IS ENGRAVED ON THE PALM OF MY HAND.' I KNOW THIS IS A WORK OF FICTION? BUT IT IS WRITTEN SO WELL, JOHN, THAT I FELT I MUST LEAVE SOMETHING THAT WILL GIVE HOPE TO ANYONE WHO MIGHT READ THIS WORK AND, INDEED, BE FEELING THIS WAY. THANKS FOR SHARING. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...JOYCE HIS INSPIRATION

Oh! This is GREAT! "The seams of our lives are tightly strung,"......this liquid gold that flows from your pen reflects reality so much!!

Love ya!

While a very lofty premise. I believe in the second to last line, but not the last one. There is simply no evidence.

I did find some comic relief in this stanza:

"The hunger of the body has us eat ourselves at night,
Until emaciated and frail, we disappear like the light."

Taking license to revise, it goes like this:

The hunger of the body has us wandering at night,
until weakness and frailty leads us to the refrigerator light. ;-)

Life's a bitch,
and then you die,
becoming fertilizer,
in the sweet bye and bye.

this is a great poem about the temporary us wrapped into a cylindrical spiral of eternity, which is always at hand and therefore unreachable. Cheers, alex

"In the end, we lie naked as the day we were born;
Our shoes cast aside, our clothing frayed and torn."

Most people go out of this life as described above . . . I have other plans . . .
