Some people seem driven to go it alone;
Others find ways to have their path shown.
Clearly, pure mystery enshrouds all our lives,
Wrapping us up like worrisome bees in a hive.
We think we know where we are going, confident,
Only to realize we are often lacking sound judgment.
I take with me a compass wherever I go,
Nestled in my pocket, but a feather in tow.
So snug and silent, I often forget it is there;
So significant, I consider it precious and rare.
My compass informs me of directions I need to know,
Especially in driving rain when winds howl and blow.
I consider my compass sacred, an item of priceless cost,
Like my conscience ever there to consult, I never feel lost.
With knowledge fused with a light that burns every brightly;
With an inspiration that always steers my true way rightly.
Whether it be the directions of north, south, east or west,
My sacred compass never fails me; it always knows best.
Somewhere in Nature’s wild lies hidden a compass flower,
As mysterious and beautiful as any flower in Nature’s bower.
The bloom gazes north truth as a magnet in summer’s meadow,
To direct the traveler’s journey from the turmoil in life’s shadow.
The finger of God has planted this beauty for everyone to see,
An inner compass there to inform the birds, the bees, and me.
My compass turns topsy-turvy, more like Captain Jack Sparrow's in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. Still, I find my way though often via the strangest routes.
AMEN, JOHN! I COULDN'T MAKE IT WITHOUT MY 'COMPASS'...HE AND I ARE ONE. AND, CONSIDERING WHAT A THING SO FULL OF 'SHORT-COMINGS' I AM, ALL HAIL AND GIVE GLORY TO THE REIGNING, NOW AND FOREVER MORE...COMPASS! THANK YOU, SIR JOHN. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS
You write so sweetly, I am glad you own such a compass, you sound like a very wise man, well written and most interesting to read. Thank you for sharing dear John
some say, 'poetry, by its very nature, is imprecise'. . . how come that there are the four cardinal directions in your piece, the wind rose, within, outside, botany, zoology, biology and even apiculture? Cheers, alex
That was me pretty much throughout my life. Its who I was, and I guess sill am as I live quite alone these days. Made some bad mistakes, but I suppose that could be said by most people. As the saying goes, I'm alone, but not lonely. Another "good" write, John.
Each person is but a grain of sand resting beside the sea. This thought sets the tone for Jill Eisnaugle’s latest poetry collection, Beside Still Waters.
Perhaps "..Quiet Storm" will help rekindle old flames buried and long forgotten or express the love so deeply locked inside of your soul longing to be released.
Regardless of where you may be found in love this beautiful masterpiece can be

We need a moral compass,
to know how to be.
