If you asked me to say two words,
I would use to characterize my life.
“Simple” would be a word to consider;
“Hard” would sure be a strong bidder.
Some things in our lives seem simple,
But even simple things can be hard.
We sometimes think a thing difficult,
When in truth it is nothing but simple.
To live, to work, to be honest, to love;
To be as right as rain or a peaceful dove.
Sounds easy, no, so why is this so hard,
Why do we plod on as a lump of lard?
To speak the truth, to tell no one lies,
Why do we say things we so despise.
What others do, we also follow suit,
Then we add insult to injury to boot.
Worse we hurt people when we talk,
Behind their back when they can’t balk.
It’s simple; they can’t defend themselves;
It’s hard; we cannot forgive ourselves.
Simple is an arrow flying straight on;
Hard a tangled net, we feel put upon.
I will do the simple things even if hard,
Hopefully, hard things will become simple.
Two ladies in my life have made wonderful suggestions about how to achieve the state of mind to which you refer: One said "stop listening to the news," and the other said "throw away your tv."
A very common conundrum that you have described very well. Simple should be simple and hard may not be not so hard.

What was hard for me was having the discipline to sit still and watch someone (usually teachers) go painstakingly slowly over every little aspect of something as though it were like climbing a mountain instead of just jumping in and doing it.
