My journeys began as a map of the globe,
Trembling fingers traced perilous journeys.
Across lofty mountains, vast oceans and seas,
The magnificent orb displayed extended terrain.
That extended to the horizon of my imagination,
And then beyond into the world of wild dreams.
Where the eye of the invisible transforms the visible,
Beyond the map edges of the known world.
The aging map recalls the loneliness of the earth,
That reaches thru ageless time far before my birth.
The wandering orb roams track of endless space,
Carrying with it the history of the human race.
The night light shines upon ragged coastlines,
The light has them tremble slightly under my gaze.
As they pulsate with the movement of endless tides,
Mountain peaks warmed by blankets of glistening ice.
Time’s footsteps disappear into the sky-scape of stars,
Evoking feelings of solitude we identify as not only ours.
We roam the cathedral corridors on the earth’s forests,
We soar high like the village storks amid earthly towers.
The world is my monastery where surrounded by secrets,
A world within worlds treasured for its own uniqueness.
The world is my monastery where surrounded by secrets, I really like this line, it speaks volumes. In my past life I think I was a monk, for in this lifetime I seek out daily, Well done John, I love the way you traveled the world xo
You are very fortunate to have traveled to places near and far in this glorious world we occupy. They say that travel educates and I firmly believe that you have gathered in education that no one can get from scholarly sources. But I sense that it is a lonely journey often in places so remote that one alone with the beauty and the thoughts. With no one to share it with. That's why your travelogues are so important. Fifty years from now, some of the pristine places you may have been at and documented, could be sullied by touristy overuse. I've seen it happen at sites here in the United States.
Your poem chronicles your journey. And your loneliness for not having a companion to share it with.
I can only imagine the sights you have seen. That thought hit me when I came to the word, "storks". I mean, who looks up and sees "storks amid earthly towers."????? I enjoy walking through the corridors of your imagery.
A beautiful poem which captures an old-world aura--"the aging map recalls the loneliness of the earth, That reach thru ageless time far before my birth.
The expanse of our inner world is proportionate to the journeys we embark on.
Contraband Marriage, traveling along the hemline of loving after incarceration, is a love story written in lyric and free form, set in reality with a different ever after.
Your poem chronicles your journey. And your loneliness for not having a companion to share it with.

Love ya!
