The truth of facts leaves something to be desired,
Some edge of beauty to be considered inspired.
We know that facts have mathematical precision,
A physicality brings with them an air of decision.
What the senses record never lie, leave no doubt,
Sane people wonder what all the fuss is about.
What’s more, they wonder how faith can be true ;
As the basis of a premise, it comes out of the blue.
To their reckoning, faith seems but a make-believe;
A form of betrayal where people themselves deceive.
Yet what of a faith that measures only facts instead;
To tell us all we need to know but leave behind dread.
And what is that feeling of dread facts leave behind,
But unanswered questions that drive us out of mind.
What about beauty, truth, happiness and yes despair,
Are these but things we need to measure and repair?
What of the intangibles that we claim to be only ours,
Our awareness and insight moving us thru the hours.
Children can take the measure of the live-long day;
Teenagers know the facts, but have nothing to say.
In our maturity, we are ready to conquer all of life;
We protect our growing children and love our wife.
As doubt lifts its head wondering what it all means;
The facts explain so little and nothing is as it seems.
There is nothing in facts where truth is precluded;
If anything facts have to a broader picture alluded.
The facts do suggest the singularity of the Big Bang;
But this begs the question of origins revelation sang.
What of the secular belief that life came from nothing;
A primordial swamp produces life as a miracle thing.
The truth about facts is that they have very little truth,
All dressed up in the world, but still looking uncouth.
True we can see, hear, smell, taste. touch their edge,
But beyond their physicality, they offer little pledge.
All the facts in the world will only give you temporality;
What lies within, beyond, opens a world of spirituality.
I sense great sentimentality in this poem. The worry that facts are driving away our most human thoughts. The countless stories passed down and nursery rhymes to scare children and make them believe in fairies and fairytales.
From literature we learn about fear from the sharks, wolves and snakes. From scientific facts we learn that riptides, hantavirus, car accidents far more life takes. (wolves and snakes help control rodent populations). Whether the Big Bang Theory is correct or not no reasonable sense makes. The theory works for now as Hubble reveals how important our faith, myth and mystery really is when the universe is unfolding before us with dangers far worse than our little minuscule troubles.
I believe that within the world of spirituality lie original facts that belong to the individual. Much more concrete, then scientific facts ever are. At least that is how I feel. I have enjoyed your inversed poem. Have a wonderful weekend John,
No one sees the truth with the same pair of eyes and beliefs, even when the facts are presented right in front of them. Humans are adaptable, they will even argue the facts and give you the lies as truths. You have the rights to believe what are the truths to you, and so does everyone else. Nothing is the concrete truth when the world and its people continue changing.
a solid poem which embraces all that lie between two concise words: facts and truths (specifically in plural). There're so many sorts of love to name them 'loves'; the same is with the former two. Fact is a pretty cold word, while 'truth' can warm us up, as is stated here, it lies within to work subjectively from within, from the bottom of one individual's heart... It seems there is no solution so long as we all are changeable with our environment, our surroundings, our facts, and our truths. And this is the only principle, the universal one, which pivots all things around: We Are Changeable, so all the rest accordingly. A long thought provoked piece of poetry. Thank you, John.
There are two sides to every story, and the truth lies somewhere in between. Tell a lie often enough, and people start believing that it is the truth, but facts are facts, and there are no "alternative facts." The trouble with faith, is that it can be twisted around to suit one's own views and opinions.
Facts . . . are there whether you wanna believe them or not. Facts will never change just to get on your good side as other so-called "facts" will. They are facts . . . Live with it.
