TRUTH, WHERE ART THOU?
By John Herlihy
TRUTH, where is the song you sing?
Where is the truth you always bring?
Who even remembers what truth is,
The truth we now follow so much fizz?
Today the truth is almost forgotten,
Truth that from ages was begotten.
There is truth in the arrow’s sting,
As true as the beauty flowers bring.
There is truth in the mountain’s peak,
As true as the knowledge we do seek.
There is truth in the darkness of clouds,
As true as the dead in funeral shrouds.
TRUTH, where is the mystery you convey?
Where is the mystery you always portray?
Who can unravel what the mystery is?
What we do unravel seems so much fizz?
Today the mystery is there to be seized,
Truth that for ages our minds eased.
There is mystery in the depths of a seashell,
As true as the ocean and its magic spell.
There is mystery in the rising crest of the wave,
As true as the hopes and dreams we crave.
There is mystery on the horizon’s shore,
As true as the prophecy of ancient lore.
TRUTH, where is the secret you reveal?
Where do you keep the secret you conceal?
Who can keep a secret never told?
Who would betray the secret when sold?
Today the secret is never believed,
Truth a secret that cannot be conceived.
There is a secret to be heard in the distant star,
As true as the galaxies in outer space afar.
There is a secret reserved between intimate lovers,
As true as the closeness of blood brothers.
There is a secret to be learned in hardship,
As true as the duties found in leadership.
TRUTH, where am I here on the run,
My life from light and darkness spun.
TRUTH, why are you oft hard to recognize?
My actions can reflect a truth I despise.
Today more than ever only my heart can hold
The reality of a truth eternally told.
