NEVERE ENOUGH OF TOO MUCH

By John Herlihy

Some say it is possible to have too much of things;

Too much of the emotions and miseries life brings.

As a child, of time, of sleep or friends never enough;

The day had no true end and the world felt like fluff.

Never enough reasons to justify simply saying “No!”;

We take our pleasures if they come, as winds blow.

Never enough reasons to justify simply saying “Yes”;

Hard work, hardships and suffering hold little caress.

As I grow older, never enough things were mounting;

Life always seems to come up short, whose counting.

Too much money, cars, food or drink, all the tangibles;

Never enough promises, hope, love, all the intangibles.

I now await the future days of my life, my soul to touch;

With every day’s blessing as never enough of too much.

AMEN. WHAT HAVE I LOST, REALLY? WHATEVER I CAN THINK OF 'HE' FAR OUTWEIGHS. AND SO, I DO AWAIT...I DO DREAM...OF THE ETERNAL BLESSINGS OF BRIGHTER, NEVER-ENDING DAYS. WHERE THERE WILL NEVER BE TOO LITTLE OR TOO MUCH OF ANYTHING. WELL DONE, MY FRIEND. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH... JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS

Every day blessings are never too much, neither are the intangibles such as hope love and promises kept. I have enjoyed your poem John, You always enrich my mind with your pensive poems. Thank you and have a great day.

Yes indeed we are the children, and grand children of “too much.” This blight upon us spreads like the wildfires in California. I personally never wanted too much. I still don’t feel that way. If I have a place to keep the elements from me, is welcomed and I don’t wish for magnificent places to dwell in. I have enough, think ya very muvh.

People will never know the true value of everything unless they work hard for everything they've got.

Well done, and as Jane said, masterful writing. With material things, it's to easy to have to much, but what really counts in life, we can never have to much.

Your words tell me of childhood and its carefree days and ways...........then comes adulthood with its demands and pressure. Wonderfully offered and well appreciated, I agree that last line of the poem. Masterful again, John!

Love ya!

Jane
