WINDMILL AT DAWN

As the windmill greets dawn,

Its sails utter no sound.

The wind stirs no movement,

Rising shyly from the ground.

- - - - - -

There on its white-washed face,

First light shines down its grace.

A bird feather floats by with ease,

By the brush of a gentle breeze.

- - - - - -

The windmill now shudders, groans,

The sail catches the wind, moans.

Stirred by the breath of the wind,

Whose force it will never rescind.

- - - - - -

Witnessing there for many years,

In early dawn, as the day clears.

True promise of peace that will be,

True vision of a future in serenity.

- - - - - -

Your words give the reader the feelings of the windmill and it sounds tired as does the observer. They seem to have grown up together. 'Love it, John!

Love ya!

I love windmills, especially the old fashion kind. Have a wonderful day dear poet John.

A beautiful rendering of your vision of what a windmill does. There is something to be said for those linen sails that pick up the wind and direct it to our bidding, so silently and powerfully.

WE have a small decorative windmill in our yard, and I enjoy watching the blades spin, morning, noon, and night, whether it's a mild breeze or a strong wind, and It also lets us know which way the wind blows. I assume the windmill in your poem is functional (pumping water, producing power). Living in Amish country, they are a common sight.

Love this poem about the windmill who can only be stirred by a gentle wind, passionately waiting for the mighty force of true, unleashed power which the wind most assuredly has in abundance!

I love the scene that unfolds with a slight breeze and strengthens to a wind that turns the windmill with shudders and groans. Nice and peaceful.
