-- IN ANOTHER DIRECTION --

By John Herlihy

Walking down the street, he paused,

The life around him no turmoil caused.

He is not impatient by inner nature,

If waiting required, he is all patience.

He does not easily succumb to desires,

If he is hungry, he will wait until at home.

He is not committed to act on impulse,

As a result, he carries very little to atone.

When people look at him, they dare not speak,

They look into his eyes, they look back meek.

He sits by a tree to watch the shadows lengthen,

The rain finally ceases from a molten-rich sky.

He takes note of things others never mention,

Ask him a question and he would never reply.

The dog stands, stretches, shakes a shaggy head,

He decided to walk in another direction instead.

THE SIMPLE CALM LIFE OF A KEPT DOG WHO HAS A HOME IS SO MUCH DIFFERENT FROM THE STREET DOG, WHO DOESN'T HAVE ONE. CHOICES, PERSONALITY AND THE DIRECTIONS THEY TAKE ARE ENTIRELY DIFFERENT. HOWEVER THERE ARE TIMES WHEN THE KEPT DOG, SURPRISES EVERYONE AND...GOES IN ANOTHER DIRECTION. SO...WHAT CAN I SAY, JOHN? THIS WORK FOR ME IS DEFINITELY METAPHORIC. ENJOYED AND THANKS FOR SHARING. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+ INSPIRATIONS

Love this!! Your words brought fond memories of a dog I had for years. There is nothing like a dog for a true friend!

Love ya!

Perfect ending to capture the magic of a dog's intelligence. Where I live now, I'm not allowed to have a dog, which hurts a lot, having had dogs all my life. But, perhaps in the years to come, I can get my health to cave just enough to justify a "service dog". BTW, I watched a heart warming feature last night on Amazon Prime, "Life, Love, Dogs" If you access Amazon, it's worth the rental.

And I did too. I have always marched to a different drummer. An uplifting piece John, with applicable subtext for every reader. Peace. r

You Look FatCalgary by RickthePoetWarrior

Using Calgary as a backdrop the author satirizes the self-serving nature of the public as it continues to fatten itself, not only physically, but egotistically as well.

43 Haiku and 4 poems of a Wayward Sailor by Mike Walling

Haiku of a Wayward Sailor” encompasses both haiku and poems. Many of the haiku are based on my experiences at sea.
