-- THE MIDNIGHT HOUR --

John Herlihy

At midday, seemingly far away, contrived,

Lost in time, this hour no longer survived.

I go about my business feeling the bustle,

Fifteen hours to the dozen in life’s hustle.

Then twilight falls heavy, darkness sets in;

We know its coming with our foolish grin.

We feel trepidation at the midnight hour;

The clock strikes twelve with all its power.

To mark end of one day, start of another;

The future will now the moment smother.

The moment locks in midnight with ease,

As serene as the rustle of a gentle breeze.

Hallowed the holy hour that strikes twelve;

The midnight hour into our soul will delve.

I TOTALLY AGREE. CERTAINLY, IN MORE WAYS THAN ONE, WE NEED TO BE AWARE OF THE 'MIDNIGHT HOUR' THAT QUICKLY APPROACHES. THANKS FOR SHARING, JOHN. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

Time moves on and midnight arrives every day whether we want it to or not. In this poem you have pointed out this inevitability. For most of us it is quite a while after the new day starts before we open our eyes to the dawn and realized that already, the day is already several hours old and we had better get busy.

Or, your poem could be a metaphor for the end of life.

I am a night owl, someone who doesn't really come to life until midnight. It's when I'm at my most creative, when most of my writing is done. It is a time when I am most myself.

Beautiful as always. Your words can certainly paint a picture of serenity.
