                             -- THE SADNESS OF A SHIRT --

John Herlihy

I wanted to get back my plaid wool shirt,

A favorite of mine made from grandma’s skirt.

Whenever I wore it, I felt its gentle, warm touch;

She made it with her own hands, her love such.

One night, out with a buddy, the two of us dim,

Traipsing from bar to bar, each with a stupid grin.

Past midnight, we slept in a barn, both in a swoon;

Me three sheets to the wind, slept next day ‘til noon.

Upon awakening, I realized my friend had skedaddled;

Gone with my grandma’s shirt, into my heart I babbled.

I eventually caught up with him so many weeks later;

Sleeping contentedly in an alley, there lay my traitor.

Wrapped in the innocence of my grandma’s plaid shirt;

As he lay there lost amid the rubble, my heart felt hurt.

A sadness soon followed as I remembered something,

The kindness of my grandma’s gift, no small offering.

ALAS! THE LOVE THAT STITCHED IT HAD FOUND ITS INTENDED 'TRUE PURPOSE' IN THE END. AND I RECALL, '...IF SOMEONE TAKES YOUR COAT, GIVE HIM YOUR CLOAK ALSO...' WHAT A FINE WORK, JOHN. SO MANY 'LOVING INTENTIONS' TAKE YEARS BEFORE ITS WORTH REALLY GLISTENS, AND RIGHTLY SO...AMEN! THANKS FOR SHARING, MY FRIEND. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

Ah, it is amazing how we can get a change of heart when we come to realize what is important in life. I lovely story, which I'm sure holds much truth. Thank you for sharing John

Sometimes its only after we lose something we treasure that we realize just how much we truly treasured it. And to lose it senselessly makes the loss that much more profound.

You Look FatCalgary by RickthePoetWarrior

Using Calgary as a backdrop the author satirizes the self-serving nature of the public as it continues to fatten itself, not only physically, but egotistically as well.

In the Whirlwind by Tichaona Chinyelu

In the Whirlwind is a poetic storm that frees history from the cages of corruption and puts it in the hands of everyday people. Words are weaved into a new fashion statement that has nothing to do with runways but everything to do with projects!
